Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Music is alive in the Bronx! We hold four major concerts each school year, which is available to every student in the school. We have a year-round chorus and 5th-grade band program available to our upper-grade students, and every student attends music class at least once a week to participate in singing, dancing, and games!

Upper grade students are engaged and motivated by learning to work with technology - this is no exception in the music classroom!

Each week, students are doing worksheets and other writing prompts, as well as singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Taking our written work to the computer screen can allow students to expand on their musical work and create neater, more polished projects. Our school technology is often prioritized by the general education classrooms, so it would be helpful to have our own set of laptops for the music room.

My Project

In music class, we are able to sing and play instruments with one another, and wonderful discovery and learning happen daily. Every class at our school goes to music class at least once a week, and we hold at least four concerts throughout the year, as well as other informal performances. Students are motivated by music, and I am trying to find new ways to challenge my students. One goal I have is to give them more experience using computers.

We are requesting two Chromebooks which will allow us to have a center that focuses on listening to music or play interactive games to check student learning in an independent space.

I have been able to borrow computers from other classrooms for occasional lessons, but it makes it difficult to plan for without our own music classroom computers. In this day, students need to have the skills to facilitate technology, so giving them the opportunity in music class is just one other way to integrate technology in our students' learning. Please help make this possible!
