My Students

My remedial-level high school students are gradually warming up to the idea of reading on their own time, but...oops! We don't have enough books.

I teach in an urban district where the majority of students come from low-income backgrounds.

Most of my students are first-generation and have so much potential but struggle with the limited resources available.

Our school is a relatively new school so resources like independent reading books are still needed. Your impact would be immediate and much appreciated by staff and students.

My Project

It has been proven over and over again that independent reading bridges the achievement gap. If I can get my students hooked on reading, their literacy skills will improve and their performance will increase in every subject area!

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can get my students to read, but I need variety and quantity to accomplish this goal.

We don't have a school library and of the books we do have, most are not relatable to my kids. I plan to share these books with my students, my co-teachers, and hopefully with the entire school community.
