This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Math is a tough subject for most students. My students, and most the students in my school, are no exception. Most students need a way to connect with the math without the intimidation. Most of them are very tech savvy, so technology is usually the way to get them to enjoy the math they are learning (or at least find it bearable).

These kids are very hungry for knowledge, but because math is a subject that hasn't been too friendly with them (and most times not friendly with their family members) they do not realize how hungry for math knowledge they are.

Our community is hard-working but low in income. The kids' hearts are huge, but their resources are few. These kids deserve to have the same resources that other communities have.

My Project

Students need BASICS in the classroom. It's really sad when a school doesn't prioritize a basic necessity like CALCULATORS in a math classroom. I understand not being able to get graphing calculators for every math classroom, but at the very least a school should make sure that EVERY math classroom has a set of calculators. Our school did order a bunch of calculators last year, but sadly my class did not make that list even though I did request them. Nobody from the administration or our math coach went around to make sure our math classrooms all had calculators.

This is why the teachers have to take it upon themselves to equip our classrooms with what is needed.

I will not ask my students to bring supplies, because we do not live in a high-income community, and families in this area need to save their money on household necessities.
