We need a nap...especially one on new cots!

Help me give my students a safe place to nap after a long day for learning and playing and being good friends and excellent helpers by helping us get new cots for naptime.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a wonderful mix of our East Harlem neighborhood and of the cultures in our city. Most are attending school for the first time and are eager to see and touch everything they encounter.

For the majority of the students, this is the first time they are inside of a classroom that is not remote.

Pre-k usually begins with a group of students (and parents) who are nervous about the new adventure that awaits. Now, after so much time away from any kind of socialization, the students (and parents) have come in excited and eager about this new journey.

In comparison to their time spent remotely, their interactions are more engaging because they get to actually play with their peers, use their imaginations and talk about whatever is on their mind; and there is definitely a lot on their minds!

They deserve a classroom that is not only welcoming and safe, but also one that promotes these great friendships with their classmates and teachers.

My Project

After a year and a half away from the building, we have come back to find a lot of our stuff in disarray, as well many things being thrown away because of safety concerns around the pandemic. One of the items that is in pretty bad shape are our cots. Many of them are broken or about to break. They have been wonderful at providing classes of kids a well deserved nap over the years, but the wear and tear has taken its toll.

At four years old, the children need that naptime to decompress and reenergize to keep on learning and engaging and functioning at that energetic level we all know they are capable of.

I want to be able to provide an optimal environment for the students by means of new beds that they can be comfortable in.
