My Students

My students are excited to come to school and learn! They are creative, smart, and full of questions. As with most classrooms, we have a wide range of students with different abilities. Many of my students do not come to school with the basic supplies they need to start the year, such as crayons and pencils. For many of them, the structure of the school day and the consistency of a classroom is a safe haven. I work very hard to create fun, engaging lessons that will keep my students learning.

I feel it is my responsibility to create an environment where all of my students can learn.

Research shows that young students learn best through hands-on activities and play. When you walk into my classroom, you will find students doing hands-on activities- playing a math game, building sight words with magnetic letters, using picture cards to sort, or using manipulatives. These allow for differentiation and engagement in my classroom, which is exactly what my students need. Students also need to have options when learning, to help them feel like they have some control and promotes student buy-in.

My Project

My students are avid readers, and they're always looking for new and interesting books to read. They love having the opportunity to read, and I often find them in their own impromptu "book circles" reading the same book as their friend and talking about it.

Many of my students are reading on or above grade level, and I would like to provide them with appropriate books for them to read during independent reading time.

While I have many books for them to choose from, we are in need of some beginner chapter books with many different subjects to draw the interests of all students in the class. My students love Junie B. Jones, Mercy Watson, and Magic Tree House books, but I would love to introduce them to other wonderful books with interesting characters.
