My Students

Some of my students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. This could be the year that magic happens and they fall in love with books.

I teach 22 wonderful students.

In Kindergarten we learn how to read. Almost all of my children are currently reading at grade level or higher. I am so proud of them and they are proud of themselves. Some of them are still unsure about books and reading and that is why I have created this project.

My Project

We recently received a wonderful listening station. The children listen to about 2 books a week during reading workstations. I can't keep up. Our school is a low-income school with limited supplies. We need more books with CD's so that we can continue using our listening station throughout the school year. My students end up reading any where from 5-15 books on a given day, by listening to me read, visiting the listening center, and silent reading. I believe reading is one of the greatest things. Being able to use your imagination, creating the scene in your head, and escaping into a different world, even if only for a little while, is one of the best experiences. That is what I am trying to teach my students.

Following along in the book while someone else is reading will grow their vocabulary.

Listening to these books will grow their interest in reading, open them up to new experiences, and help them use their imagination!
