My Students

"We love to read!" is a regular comment in my 4th grade classroom. What an amazing starting point for a class. I want to deepen their love of reading and build their skills to meet the Common Core Standards, but our class library is very limited.

My students are very caring and motivated learners.

They take their reading seriously, often sharing what they are reading with each other. Additionally, our school community is a very positive, supportive place. We strive to create a strong literacy environment throughout our building. However, we also have limited financial resources, which makes it difficult to provide a variety of books for students to enjoy in our classroom.

My Project

Current research shows that students progress best when practicing with texts at their "Just Right" reading level. The more books available at different levels, the more opportunities students will have to be engaged in reading. Quality texts will give my students the opportunity to build their skills on a daily basis when reading to themselves and each other, as well as during guided reading groups. Nonfiction texts will supplement lessons in math, social studies and science.

By donating to my project, you will help to build a richer literacy environment.

This will give more opportunities for my current and future students to deepen their love of reading while they engage in reading interesting books at their skill level.
