Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have read almost my entire classroom collection and keep asking for more. Do I have another book from the Billy B. Brown or Dogman series? Do you have more books about hurricanes? they keep asking. My students are inquisitive, voracious Spanish bilingual readers who are craving to discover the newest adventures in their favorite book.
My students are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.
As bilingual learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our classroom library to read high quality books in English and in Spanish. Each day students inquire when the newest books by their favorite authors will be added to the library and if they can be first to check out these books. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in our classroom. Reading is cool in my classroom.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich environment that I strive to create for all my students. This project will help my students stay engaged with rich literature.
My students will be able to choose and take home books not only based on their interest and reading levels but also by language of preference, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more. These books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
