My Students

I teach 8th graders in a suburban school in Queens, New York. I have 165 students that range from advanced students that take the Living Environment Regents course for high school credit, to general education classes that take General Science. In the general science classes, there are high performing students, English Language learners, and students with special needs that are in an ICT setting where there is a special education teacher that co-teaches with me to help all students achieve.

My Project

My science class has several project-based learning activities that we engage in throughout the year. These projects are student led and require them to perform much research to help them solve their problem.

This year there are no class laptops available in the classrooms because they have all been given to students who needed them for remote learning.

Now that schools have reopened, there is a lack of technology for those who came back into the classroom. Some children can use their phones and some bring their own laptops in but not every child can do that. Having the additional laptops will allow for more students to be more actively engaged in doing research, engage in virtual labs and interactive simulations.

When everything goes back to normal, the additional laptops will be useful since I normally have 8 classroom laptops for 32 students to share.
