This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are not interested in reading. My classroom this year is filled with old worn out books; pages have been torn and stained, the covers are ripped and some are even missing.

The students in my class come from a very diverse neighborhood.

We have families from Poland, Romania, Egypt, Ecuador, Pakistan, and many other countries. Many of the children come from homes where English is not spoken. Many are English Language Learners.

My Project

I am asking for new series books. I have recently moved into a new classroom, the books in my new room are very old and most of them are missing pages. Having new series books will help foster a love of reading in my classroom. I know my students will be extremely excited to get their hands on new books. Series books are important because they allow my students to follow the same character through several different adventures. When several different children read books from the same series they are able to form book clubs and have discussions based on their reading. These discussions help improve their verbal speaking skills, listening skills, and reading comprehension.

Your donation will provide more opportunities for my students read.

They will be able to read books they love and develop a love for the characters in those books. I believe that once a child finds a book they love, reading will become a priority in his/her life.
