Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I will be teaching second grade at a title 1 school. I have 15 boys and 11 girls and 12 students that speak English as a second language. My students are very interested in science and love learning about how things are related and how they work. I have many students that have limited experiences learning about the outside world. I can't wait to provide hands on activities that are meaningful to all, that allow my ELL students to thrive in an environment that is rich in vocabulary and make my girls say a career in science? Yes, please! In second grade my students will be asked to describe the earths surface, map land and water, and to plan a hike using California maps. I have planned activities that allow them to collaborate using clay, moss, and water to outline the different landforms in California and make a 3 dimensional map. My activities will allow them to not just hear the vocabulary but really explore it through hands on learning.
