This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine not being read to? Being read to is a powerful tool in kindergarten and it models good fluent reading. My students come from homes where they do not own a book and have never been read to before. Help my students become good readers!

Our school is a Title 1 school in a low income area, and the majority of my students are English language learners.

My students love to come to school and are very curious about the world around them. They especially love listening to me read and exploring the books!

My Project

Our class needs more big books to support our shared reading! We only have a limited selection and we need more books that are appealing to my class and allow my students to use their imagination and skills to become great readers! Being read to and reading as a group is extremely important to early and emergent readers! With the materials we have requested, my students will be able to use their knowledge of beginning sounds and the different strategies taught to become fluent readers using big books. Also, we need more earth science literature resources. With books about land forms, rocks, weather, and texture, my students not only can explore the content hands-on but have literature to back it up. My students will be able to understand the content in multiple ways and have fun learning it!

The donations made to this request will make a huge difference in my students' lives, especially those in poverty.

Books are critical to reading. A picture means a thousand words and that is only the beginning of what my students will experience with their curiosity with the books from this donation.
