Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year, all of the second grade teachers begin the year by reading the Mercy Watson series out loud to the 2nd graders. To say that they enjoy the books would be an understatement! Students love Mercy Watson and are totally engaged each day, listening to her antics. After reading the entire 6-book series, which have shorter chapters and full color illustrations, I read a few of the longer books from the Deckawoo Drive series to my second graders. The Deckawoo Drive series takes place in Mercy’s neighborhood but focuses on the secondary characters from the Mercy Watson books. Students love all the characters and all the books!

Students would also love to check the Mercy Watson books out from our school library but the few copies we had are missing!

I am requesting several copies of the entire set of Mercy Watson books, including the 2 picture books. I know these books will fly off the shelves, especially since almost every student from second grade up has heard the books and adore Mercy Watson, the porcine wonder.

Since the author Kate DiCamillo has written picture books, beginning chapter books, and more challenging chapter books about Mercy the pig, every student at my school will benefit from this project. If you help us get these books, you’ll make a lot of readers happy! Thank you for your consideration.
