This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Listening to books without a radio is pretty impossible! We love our listening center, but our radio was old and we finally had to say goodbye to it.

We are a Title One public school in NY.

We are a 2nd grade ICT class, which means we need to accommodate many different learning styles. In an ICT class, there are 2 teachers and 60% of the students are general education students while 40% of the students are special education students. We are a diverse group with a lot to offer, but with all the different needs in one classroom, we need a lot of support! We have several groups going all day long to meet the needs of our students.

My Project

With the resources we have requested, we will be able to resurrect our listening center. This is one activity that can really help several of our students learn to read. We have the headphones, books and Cds already, but no way to listen to them. We will put the small table we have requested in the middle of us to help us organize ourselves as we read. We have asked for a classroom mailbox system to organize the books and Cds into as they get all mixed up and it's hard to find what we need. The dry erase boards will help us stay at the listening center and work on comprehension and decoding strategies (we will stick it to the wall!). Sentence strips help us label our work and organize our room so we can better use the room. And last but definitely not least, pencils! We never have pencils...and we need them! We use pencils for everything, but are using pencil stubs at this point in the year.

This donation will upgrade our classroom from a basic classroom to a class with possibilities!

We have so many different needs in this class and so much potential! Gaining these resources will help our students enjoy books while learning to read them, all while spending their day in an organized, well managed classroom. The more organized the classroom is, the more independent our students can be. Independent students that can read...what more could a teacher ask for!
