Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a small dynamic elementary school in the South Bronx. The students at my school come from a high stricken poverty base, but they are all wonderful children who have a passion for learning. They love our school because like myself the teachers provide them with creative nurturing classrooms and weekend intramural programs that foster the love for learning. We have limited resources and buy a lot of materials on our own so that the students can thrive in our school. We would love some support in helping build our school intramural program. Last year I introduced them to the game of hockey. However, this year the hockey intramural instructional unit will no longer be allowed to be taught. This is because the hockey sticks that we were using to learn the game are not developmentally age appropriate for elementary school students. The students really really took to the game of hockey and will be deeply saddened when they learn we can no longer do it because we do not have soft hockey sticks. Please help my students' learning experience be a positive one by donating towards purchasing some developmentally appropriate hockey equipment.

My Project

Since this is an elementary school I will use the hockey sticks in my intramural Saturday Academy. This will allow me to expose inner city kids to such a great game as hockey. Currently all the kids want to play is basketball which is great but they need to be exposed to other sports so they could be well rounded. In order for the children to be allowed to be introduced to such a great sport we need developmentally appropriate hockey sticks. This will allow the children to participate in the sports in a safe manner. Please make this happen!
