My Students

Our students are anxious to learn! Our school is for students with special needs who, because of severe emotional and behavioral issues, have not been able to learn successfully at their regular schools. They learn a little bit differently, and we are able to accommodate their differences and keep them in school!

Our school provides a safe place where students can make mistakes, learn coping skills and master problem-solving strategies while continuing to be exposed to the district-wide academic curriculum.

Instead of being suspended or removed from the learning environment for extended parts of the day, our daily goal is to keep students in the learning environment.

My Project

We started our school garden in October of 2016, and it has been a great success since day one! Ever since that first day when we planted tiny seeds into the pots, the students cannot wait to get out to the garden to see what new things have happened, and they are never disappointed. Our students have learned that they can actually grow food to eat, and they all enjoyed the fruits (and vegetables) of their labors when we had our first garden feast featuring green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, and baby kale. We now need garden pots, potting soil and fertilizer to keep our garden growing.

It started out with 7 students, and interest grew so quickly that now different classes have joined us in enjoying the garden.

We have a waiting list for students hoping to become a member of the regular gardening team! Our school focuses on behavior, and this garden has proven to be not only a tremendous motivator but also a real learning experience in cooperation.
