I try my hardest to ensure that each and every one of my students will be comfortable in my classroom. I strive to make learning exciting, engaging, and fun.
My students come from different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds and will come into my classroom to learn and love.
I have 16 students: 10 boys and 6 girls. Our school has a high population of English Language Learners and half of our students are on free and reduced lunch. Each child is unique in their own way and makes our day so much fun! Our school strives to make sure each of these students are given the opportunity to learn, no matter who they are.
My Project
As a first grade teacher, instilling a love for reading in students has always been a main priority for me. Whether it is a book that I am reading to them, that they are reading by themselves, or that their parents are reading before bed, I want students to be excited about reading.
Throughout the years, I have learned that the only way to instill a love for reading is to have books that students can relate to and WANT to read!
These books in my project will give students opportunities to find books they want to pick up and read without being asked. At the beginning of the year, I had students take an interest survey about what kind of books they would like to have in our classroom library. From those answers, I have added student specific books to this project so that each child can get excited about reading.
Additionally, there are books on this list that will help me guide my lessons through read alouds. Many concepts that are taught can be applied and understood through reading a book. Whether it is a writing strategy, a social skill, or a comprehension strategy reading can be the key to unlock those learning opportunities.
