My Students

We are a classroom full of excited readers! As a class, we love to read Fairytales, Non-fiction, Fiction, and most of all, Biographies. We recently read about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and was inspired by all the good deeds and the impact he had, and still continue to have, in our country. Other than biographies, we are also huge fans of Fictional stories. A class favorite includes "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and the classic "Goosebumps" tales.

My Project

I once read, "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot in Treasure Island." This quote did not have much meaning to me growing up. I thought to myself, "How could that be? money can buy you everything!" Little did I know, that sentiment is false. Growing up, I was not much of a reader. The books I was forced to read were dry and boring and were mainly books used for school projects. Until one day, I picked up a book about Greek gods and myths and oh man! I was hooked! Learning about Zeus and all the other gods and goddesses enabled me to imagine and fantasize life in various colors. My newfound love for reading opened up different worlds I can escape to. This feeling of wonder is exactly what I want for my students.

Exposure to books is the first step.

If students are exposed to more and more books, they will one day find that one special book that grabs, and hooks them.
