Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My preschool students are highly motivated and love to participate in different gross motor activities. Being that they come from low-income families, they do not have the opportunity to learn and practice yoga outside of school.

The students love to move and play because that helps them learn about their bodies and acquire self-regulation skills.

They take joy in practicing different yoga poses and other breathing activities that teach them about their bodies, breathing, and how to regulate and control different feelings. Yoga is a class routine that is combined to reinforce the language and listening skills as well.

My Project

My students love practicing yoga because it's a new experience and it involves using their bodies with a purpose. These yoga mats will be the best complement to our daily yoga practice. The mats will help them to become fully engaged in the different yoga poses because they are the appropriate materials. They have been using pieces of the rest mats to practice yoga, but they are not big enough and safe since they tend to slide.

As an educator, my goal is to nurture the children's physical as well as emotional well-being.

Furthermore, reduce challenging behaviors in the class by using yoga given the fact that it has so many benefits. I have noticed the positive effect yoga has had over the past three months. The students have learned to relax, meditate, enjoy, manage their feelings, boost their self-esteem, and improve coordination and balance. Yoga can have a positive impact on children’s physical and emotional well-being making teaching and learning successful. During our yoga sessions, the students are learning listening skills and following directions, which are important life skills. It's a win-win practice!
