We Like to Read! (We Just Need Help)

My students need two Kindle Fires to utilize Immersion Reading and develop literacy skills.

My Students

My students are hard working and motivated, and especially determined to develop in the areas that they have struggled in for their entire education. Using assistive technologies, they can grab that bull by the horns!

My students are all in Exceptional Student Education and have specific learning disabilities, mostly in reading.

Our focus is to develop life and work skills in order to be employable and independent. Many of my students do not have parents that work with their reading skills at home, and even in classrooms, class sizes prevent constant modeling and guidance in reading models. Independence and resources to encourage my students and foster their independence boosts their self-efficacy and confidence to practice reading and literacy skills.

My Project

My students will use Kindle Fires by utilizing the Kindle/Audible collaboration of WhisperSync and Immersion Reading. The e-reader will not only read aloud for them like an audio book, but also highlight the text that is being read in order to develop a proficiency and familiarity with words as they are reading.

Giving my students the independence and confidence they need to not only be capable of accomplishing work by themselves, but also become proficient in developing resources like self-advocacy skills and literacy that will serve as life-long benefits.
