This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege of teaching six amazing students in grades K-2. They are sweet, energetic and full of wonder. All of my students have communicative disorders and deficits in social as well as cognitive domains. As one of their first learning experiences, I strive to create an environment that is safe, fun and engaging.

It is inspiring to see these students reach milestones that one might take for granted.

With the right support, the sky is the limit for my students!

My Project

Motor activities are crucial for growth and independence. When children are able to crawl, walk and run it helps them learn not only about themselves but explore and navigate the world around them. Gross motor skills such as walking and jumping are crucial for self care skills such as dressing. Being in control of your large muscles can help one sit upright at a table which aids students to attend to instruction. It also helps with communication as many of our students convey wants and needs by pointing and gesturing.

Without fair gross motor skills, children will struggle with day to day tasks.

Children need these skills for everyday activities at home and in school. As you can see it affects all aspects of their lives. In order to build gross motor strength you need to practice that skill with fun and engaging activities. The rocking horses and balance beam will certainly help accomplish that!
