Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our elementary school serves approximately 650 children living in the South Bronx, a low-income community in New York City. My 4th grade students are goal oriented scholars who strive to be their very best despite their learning disabilities.

My students enjoy learning through hands on exploration and collaborative discussions.

As a Special Education Teacher working in an inclusive classroom setting, I am passionate about providing a warm and safe space for each scholar to learn. With their various learning styles and needs, it is necessary to differentiate instruction. For this reason, it is my desire to develop a student-centered environment that makes learning fun and easy for students of all needs.

My Project

While working in collaborative groups, independent exploration, and guided learning, students will have the opportunity to choose seating that best suits their independent needs. Sitting in a chair for some students can be challenging, unsafe, as well as uncomfortable. Having the ability to choose what works best for them each day will help them stay focused on their education which is most important.

The wobble chairs will benefit students who are unable to sit still in their seats by providing them a safe way to sit and learn.

The stools will provide additional seating that can also be used at their desks, or pulled up to guided tables for teacher and peer support. Thank you in advance for supporting my scholars!
