My Students

Conversations about topics, shuffling around the room, smiles from little learners when their light bulb goes off. Imagine walking into a Special Education Kindergarten classroom of motivated and diverse little learners. Their five and six year old minds are constantly moving and ready for the next new learning experience. My Kindergarten students are eager to learn and grow in their first year of elementary school. They constantly want to move around and my goal for my little learners is to provide them with that opportunity to move and learn.

They love to move around the room to read a book or build with shapes in the math centers with their learning friends.

Their busy bodies need exploration throughout the kindergarten classroom to engage in meaningful conversations about their new findings. My students are fascinated with the world of learning around them each day.

My Project

My students have requested to move more throughout their day by having wobble chairs and balance chairs. The wobble chairs and balance chairs will allow them to move and work on their core while reading and participating in literacy activities. They have also requested cones during literacy activities so they can run, jump, and skip during sight word games. The bouncy bands will allow them to have more movement while working independently at their seats. My students feel that the materials will allow them to move and stay active.

"Miss Szymanik, we need to get our wiggles out!" The materials requested by my students will increase their movement throughout the day by over 120 minutes during the literacy block.

Most of their day is spent indoors at school and they are offered very limited recess time. Our literacy block is the largest portion of their day, which takes place in the morning. This will increase their energy to move and learn. My students have also stated that they feel better when they can move and learn. They said they are more focused and want to continue their learning.
