Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of active 9, 10, and 11 year olds who beg daily for me to take them outside for physical education. Whether it is running laps, playing an organized sport, or completing drills and exercises my students welcome any physical activity challenge.

I have a culturally and economically diverse group of students, but the commonalities they all share and what I am most proud of are their great hearts and passion for learning.

They treat each other with respect, are sensitive to each others' differences, and appreciate each others' individuality. They are my inspiration! I teach at a Title 1 school that serves a diverse population of children with varying needs. Despite challenges, our students continue to thrive both socially and academically with the support of dedicated teachers, a hard-working principal, an equally hard-working office staff, amazing parents, and a wonderful community! I'm lucky to be part of such a great school!

My Project

The jump rope sets and hula hoops I am requesting will be used to teach important gross motor skills, foot-eye coordination, and in some cases teamwork while getting students active in a fun and engaging way. Students will also build stamina and endurance during cardio exercises. It is my hope to bring back some of the traditional childhood favorites and teach students the skills that go along with these movement activities and games. The use of these materials will increase the overall health and activity level of my students.

My project will make a difference by increasing students' physical activity levels and getting them active in a variety of jumping and movement activities.

It is my hope that that being active today will lead them to a healthier and active future.
