This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am reaching out to request your support to promote a healthier and more active learning environment by addressing a significant issue in modern classrooms: sedentary behavior.

By providing students with standing desks and walking pads, we can transform the way they learn.

In today’s world, students spend a significant portion of their day sitting—whether it’s in classrooms, during meals, or on their devices at home. Research has shown that prolonged sitting can be harmful, such as poor posture, and long-term health problems like obesity and cardiovascular disease. Additionally, it can negatively impact cognitive function, making it harder for students to focus and retain information.

Unfortunately, today’s students are more immobile than previous generations. With the rise of screen time and a decrease in outdoor physical activity, many students are struggling to maintain the physical movement needed for healthy development. This lack of movement impacts both their minds and their bodies, leading to lower energy levels, diminished attention spans, and reduced academic performance.

Standing Desks: Standing while working has been shown to improve posture, energy levels, and focus. It encourages a more dynamic, engaged approach to learning, as students can move around, shift their positions, and stay alert.

Walking Pads: Integrating walking pads into the classroom will allow students to walk at a slow pace while they work. Walking, even at a gentle pace, has numerous benefits, including boosting circulation, increasing oxygen flow to the brain, and enhancing cognitive function. Studies suggest that light physical activity like walking can help with concentration, memory retention, and creative problem-solving.

I work with students who are eager to learn but are often hindered by the limitations of sitting in a traditional classroom setup. Your support will empower my students to become more active and engaged learners—ultimately improving their physical and mental health.
