Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second grade, bilingual special education teacher in a high needs community school.

My students have not had art this year, so I have taken it upon myself to include art into their curriculum. So far this year, we have made paper owls, holiday decorations, African masks, springtime banners, springtime flowers and farmer bunnies. I would really love to continue to give my students art time, but unfortunately, have begun to run low on supplies. Through these activities, they have not only had a creative outlet, but they have learned to share, and to be respectful as a result. Instead of saying "Gimme the glue!", I stood back last Friday and watched as they shared paint and said "May I have the green please?" or "Does anyone have the yellow paint?" This is an incredible accomplishment for these seven year old children.

Donor, My students need art materials, such as white bags, paper crimper, wiggly eyes, wiki sticks, chenille stems, mosaics, scissors, and markers. With your help, the students will have supplies to make puppets, learn math and social studies via mosaics, and learn science by drawing with the markers. They will learn social skills, occupational therapy (which many of them receive as part of their services) and art all at the same time as they learn what's in their curriculum!

Your generosity will help my students become more rounded. Education is much more than just reading and math. They need time to be creative and interact with each other socially. Your gift will make it possible for my students to be able to have that. Thank you!
