Help Mrs. Seaton

I teach fourth grade in an urban school. Our students come from a high need environment. The population of students is 50/50 minority. We are a 98% free or reduced lunch school.

Students enjoy reading but very rarely have any books at home. Therefore, I feel it is my duty to provide books.

My students need bookcases so that we can have a place to put our books and supplies. Many of my books are either in boxes or crates on the floor. This makes it difficult for students pick out books they can read. I want to teach students to respect books and the knowledge they can bring. If we had bookshelves I could display the books in an appropriate manner.

These students very rarely see the inside of a library. To be able to have a classroom library and for it to be organized in a manner that is effective, would be giving these students the opportunity to feel as if they are as important as any other student at any other school. Without you I will not be able to provide materials effectively or teach them the correct way to respect the knowledge that books can bring.
