Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy browsing for books. They absolutely love to read independently and look forward to their book shopping day weekly. This is an opportunity for groups of students to exchange books and "shop" for new titles to read for the week. However, I have witnessed my students in the past few weeks of school search for informational books and have noticed that some books were worn out and titles were not interesting. With our upcoming informational writing projects, students will be able to choose these wonderful books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading as they navigate research to produce a writing piece and presentation.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of informational books that will allow them to read and research independently.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more. These books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students have already shown an astonishing interest in independent reading. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word and expand their knowledge of influential African American historical figures.
