Help Ms. Seewald

I teach math and science at an inner-city elementary school in Houston, Texas. Our school used to have the oldest community garden in the southwest before it was torn down for a rebuilding project. This year, with help from our community, we have started to rebuild this amazing outdoor classroom. The Travis Garden will be an outdoor learning laboratory for students to study science, math, reading, and social studies, as well as the arts. Students will experience hands-on learning with nature as they plant their class gardens. They will build on these experiences by nurturing planted seeds, weeding, watering, and harvesting their class garden plot. At harvest time, students will be able to make health connections by discussing, cooking and eating the resulting plants. By engaging our students in real-life, hands-on studies, we will foster a lifelong interest in science, nature, and learning. In order to give our students this amazing learning opportunity, we need your help! For safety and practicality, we will need enough “kid-sized” gloves and tools for each student to work in the gardens. However, in this proposal, I am only requesting the children’s garden tools. Will you help our garden grow?
