My Students

"YUCK, AHHH NO, OH MAN!" Those were the words I used to utter when it was time to write in class. Flash Forward 30 years and now I am teaching Kindergarten students that writing can be fun. However, writing is a difficult subject to teach and can be very overwhelming for many young children.

I have a class of 17 Kindergarten students.

They keep me on my toes and I love it! It's a challenge that is worthwhile. Just imagine 17 smiles, 17 hugs, 17 different laughs, and 17 young minds--who could resist working with these kids everyday. We are a TITLE I School and most of my students are on Free/Reduced Lunch. Don't let that fool you....I have some future teachers, doctors, lawyers, business owners, artists, and maybe even a president or two!

My Project

I am asking for enrichment and early learning writing supplies and resources to reinforce writing skills that we use everyday. These materials will reach my low students who need help in basic sentence writing and letter formation, as well as my higher students that already have a strong writing foundation, but need to take their learning to the next level. Differentiating my instruction is one way I can reach every child to ensure that they will be successful, not just in Kindergarten, but in first grade and beyond. My students will learn that writing can be fun and I will be happy knowing that I have provided a strong writing foundation for them to build on.

One of our most important tasks (as teachers) is to introduce our young students to written language and how to use it creatively and effectively to communicate.

It is important for teachers to provide a variety of authentic writing experiences. That's why this project is so important. I want to set up our environment to provide meaningful writing opportunities in all classroom areas.
