My Students

Do you remember what school was like when you were five years old? I would love to capture these moments for my students because unfortunately, a majority of my students don't have access to technology. At the end of the year my students will have a lasting keepsake of their kindergarten year.

I am a kindergarten teacher with 22 enthusiastic students in my class.

About 80 percent of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. All of my students are motivated to learn no matter what challenges they have in their own life or in their community. Their families want the best education for their child and they are willing to try the best.

My Project

This is my 21st year teaching and I know technology is constantly evolving. Last year, thanks to DonorsChoose (and donors like you) I was able to get a Laptop for my classroom. Therefore, I was able to make a slide show of all my digital pictures I take throughout the year and present it at Open House. The parents were brought to tears. The parents were very appreciative and I was hoping with the Flip Video camera I would be able to capture the moments that parents don't get to experience in the classroom and also, capture the moments that the parents see but aren't able to record due to various reasons. I will also record my students reading, which is exciting because kindergarten is when students learn how to read. The Flip Video camera will be a tool that will really engage and motivate my students.

Kindergarten is a very special time in a child's life.

I want to make these memories permanent by providing each child with a special disc of their kindergarten memories. The Flip video camera will help enhance this memory disc. Still pictures are one type of memory but some things just can't be captured in a picture. The Flip video camera will capture those other moments. My students and their families will be grateful to have these special memories.
