When it comes to the cheer team at AHS, fundraising is such a large aspect of what it takes to be a cheerleader. The athletes are expected to spend a good amount of their time fundraising for items to make them look like a uniformed team. This project will lighten the burden and make them look and feel good by providing them with uniformed team accessories.
This project will allow the students who don't have the financial support to participate in a cheer team by providing water bottles to keep them hydrated, sweat towels to keep themselves cool, and brand new bows.
The girls have been practicing outside for the past couple of weeks due to the lack of indoor areas on campus. They have been doing so without water bottles and they also feel uncomfortable drinking from the water fountain. I want to provide the athletes with these items as a gift before the upcoming season to keep them motivated.
It is proven that students in team sports tend to do better academically because of the expectations of their coaches. After only a few weeks of practice, I can see the change in each student. There is a shift in motivation and a passion for school spirit. Our athletes and parents are responsible for purchasing all their gear and uniforms, which can become costly. Providing these items for the cheer team makes the total price affordable for parents.
