We Dig Dinosaurs!

To gain a paleontologist's experience, my students need 15 science journals, 7 dinosaur models and set of reference books, 15 vertebra dig kits, 2 sets of prehistoric creature manipulatives,5 examples of fossils, and a dinosaur trackway activity kit with footprint templates. With the assistance of a local paleontologist, students learn to formulate questions and develop scientific reasoning to inquire about topics of interests within this unit, such as "Why and how did dinosaurs become extinct?" and "Why is it important to prevent the future extinction of other species?"

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are a group of wide-eyed, curious and creative kindergarteners who are enthralled by science. My school fosters a positive learning environment with a cross-curricular approach for differentiated learning. They are currently fascinated by reptiles, especially prehistoric ones have the opportunity to bring to my students the joy of learning through a theme unit on dinosaurs and prehistoric life. As our population represent various socioeconomic backgrounds, this unit presents with a rare opportunity for the children to explore and be exposed to many scientific and cross-curricular experiences, i.e.: examining fossils and how they were formed, learning about how the continents separated over time, which led some animals to remain in certain areas and not in others. Students will engage in basic research on prehistoric topics of their choice, culminating in a research paper and a simulated dig.

My students' hard-working parents contribute what they can in terms of time and resources to provide the best, well-rounded education for their children. I want to help them to assist their children in becoming life-long learners and to foster a love of science through reading, writing, and exploration. We are studying various animals, including prehistoric creatures, and my students, as well as those in the other two classes, would benefit from books, hands-on materials such as dinosaur counters and sorters, models, trackway footprint stencils and fossil-dig kits to enable them to better understand concepts such as: size, shapes, defensive adaptations, and similarities and differences between these amazing creatures. I want them to understand that research can help them to learn more about a topic.

I need tangible objects (manipulatives to sort and order by different properties), books, fossil dig kits, models of dinosaurs, science journals to record their findings, and games to challenge my young learners to ask more analytical questions and to make important connections between ideas. It will assist in developing their mathematical and reading skills by heightening interest and inspiring them to want to learn more.

With your help, my students can learn how to ask crucial questions, to make basic hypotheses, to explore and to experiment in order to find answers, and to experience science in such a way as to drive them to want to know more.
