My Project

My students are some of the highest performing in the state, but have not experienced a quality music curriculum for a few years now. Almost all of my students are children of color, including myself, and have always wanted to be in a music class where they can create, explore, and experiment. I am a brand new teacher aiming to modernize and diversify the standard music education curriculum. This year, I aim to introduce units that include boomwacker accompaniment, storybook accompaniment, rhythm and theory, songwriting, and aural instrument identification! My students come from one of the worst areas of the Bronx, and have been told that they don't deserve to have the same experiences as their peers in better funded schools. I want to show them that they do deserve a quality music education program regardless of their upbringing or race. An important part of making sure I can make these units engaging, informative, and even possible, is having instruments such as percussion tables, drum set, maracas, shakers, etc. to incorporate into our class. This final donation will complete and transform our empty music classroom. Anything that can be donated will be nothing but appreciated and will impact the quality of my students' musical experiences this year.
