My Project

Many of our students often hold their feelings inside and may be harboring anger for various reasons, such as challenging home situations, low self-esteem, or a lack of self-love. This negativity can be apparent in their demeanor, sometimes even without words. I work with students with disabilities, who are also affected by these issues. My focus is on teaching them about compassion and kindness.

Most of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and face regular challenges that contribute to their frustrations and negative attitudes.

I emphasize that they don’t always need to respond with hostility; kindness can encourage others to treat them well and can also help improve their self-perception. I encourage them to practice kindness at home, explaining that positive behavior can influence those around them. However, I remind them that they shouldn’t give up after encountering the first negative response.

The items in this project such as the candy, affirmation chips, stones, cards, and stickers are intended for my students to distribute to others when they notice a need or recognize someone for their positive actions. We will have a weekly activity where each student rewards a peer or staff member, both at school and during our Community-Based Instruction classes. This initiative aims to foster better attitudes among students, towards their teachers, and at home, ultimately leading to a happier life. They will choose kindness!
