Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a public elementary title one school with approximately 400 students. The student population consist of 24% are African American, 42% Latino/Mexican, 12% White and 1% Asian. 75% are economically disadvantaged and 34% are students with disabilities. Many are from foster and single parent families. Many families have been displaced and lost their jobs from the COVID-19 pandemic. Many families rely on food pantries and assistance to get through these unprecedented times.
As of March 17th, our students will be remote learning at home but that doesn't take away the caring that we have in our community.
Our 5th grade graduating class will not have a traditional graduation celebrating all their hardwork from kindergarten to 5th grade but we still want to embrace their achievements with a celebration cake that they can have with their family and we can remotely share in this celebration as well.
My Project
Graduation is the sign of a new chapter and the culmination of years of learning, achievements, being with community and with friends. It’s an emotional time for anyone going through this rite of passage, but for the grads of 2020, it comes with a heightened sense of emotion and feelings of disappointment.
Graduation commencement is a milestone event that many look forward to their whole life.
Graduation during the COVID-19 crisis will look different than normal, but we can still celebrate our graduates. With your help, we can help plan a graduation-themed celebration with the goal of the graduates knowing that all their work is valued. It will motivate them to know that the educational system values them and helps sets their goal to be college and career ready in any situation.
