My Students

Every time a concept is grasped, a goal is achieved, a new challenge is met, each shinning face is filled with pride. As I tell my students, these are all "refrigerator" moments. Help my students achieve more of them by providing them with the physical tools needed to learn.

My class is a 12 students, one teacher and one teaching assistant self-contained special education class in an impoverished area of New York.

Currently we have five kindergarten and seven first grade students. The students have various disabilities, ranging from autism, learning disabled, ADHD, and intellectually disabled. Many of my students reside in either shelters, single family homes or foster care. The make up of my class's home life reflects the majority of the home lives of the students in our school. These children face many challenges, while we as teachers try to make learning not one of them. The children in my class are curious explorers that are eager to learn.

My Project

As excited learners, many of them experiencing school for the first time, the children are constantly on the move. It is difficult for many of them to remain seated in order to complete our assignments all day long. Sometimes they fall out of their chairs or sometimes they stand over the tables. Help them stay focused on our school work by donating desks that move with them!

The donation of the two desks will provide children with the opportunity to fidget and get the wiggles out while remaining focused and on task.

Having the children on task will increase their learning and understanding of concepts.
