About My Students

Victoria is Rock Band Club president, a keyboard player, and a very nice, ambitious person. Our world needs more like her, and I'm happy for every chance to show her ways to develop her already impressive leadership skills.

Victoria plays several instruments, but as Rock Band Club president, she also promotes the idea of student-directed music in many ways. She encourages others to join together and begin playing as bands. She volunteers as accompanist for singers who don't play an instrument. She also diligently does a lot of organizational drudgery simply because someone needs to. As a keyboard player herself, Victoria's known for some time that we haven't had proper support for our keyboard positions, and she's willing to help the drummers simply because they need help. The speaker cabinet will connect to the amp we're using for our keyboard station. The current system sounds mediocre: either the keyboard player can hear well or the band can, but not both. Having the second speaker cabinet will work better. The bench has quick adjustment. The matching drum pedals will replace two old, mismatched pedals that have a variety of problems. These pedals will help our drummers sound better, too.

With her leadership abilities, Victoria's an ideal candidate for this program. She's worked with some of our student bands in applying for competitions, workshops, and performance events. She also organizes and conducts membership meetings. She and I have never worked on a grant application before, though. This opportunity is well structured to help her learn more about organizational management and development by participating in the process and seeing my answers to these questions as models. While we've been working on this application, we found out about another program offering instruments to students, and even though the deadline is very soon, she's applying for that on her own now. Thank you!

In Their Own Words

Our goal is to expand our music program here at my school. Many students have varied tastes in music, heavy rock is a favorite amongst my friends. In that genre we need lots of equipment, so this DonorsChoose.org program is perfect for us. This project is important for us because we can't live without music. How else would we spend our time when we don't worry about homework? So we will get lots of use out of what we need. The speaker cabinet and bench are for the keyboard station of our band setup.

As president of the Rock Band club, leadership is what I do. Plus, I am learning how to fund-raise effectively, which is important skill I will use later on in my future careers. Lots of people wait for a reform or two to come along but not me. Being a leader and being proactive is the best way to go. "Rock On!"

Here at my preforming arts magnet high school, we have so many students that are passionate about their particular art. From theater, film, and dance, to our music program here, it's important to support this gem of a place because many other schools have no access to the arts at all. We are in the top five out of over 700 schools in our district with the best access to the arts, thanks to funding from people like you and other donors.
