This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember listening to your favorite story in a listening center and how exciting it was? My students have not had the experience of listening to a story through headphones. We also have a difficult time hearing our current boom box because it is not loud enough.

Most of my students are second language learners and do not have the luxury of listening to popular stories at home.

The only stories they hear are in the classroom. My students sit anxiously with excitement when I read stories aloud to them. At the end of each story they clap and want to hear it again. The classroom is the quietest when I read stories aloud.

My Project

Every morning my students have the pleasure of browsing/reading books. Unable to read these books, I hear the excitement in their voices as they create their own stories through the illustrations. They are beginning to recognize words in the stories. They get excited because they can read some words in the books. My students will be excited to independently listen to their favorite stories in small groups.

Having a listening center in the classroom will improve students listening and reading skills.

They will feel a greater love and excitement for reading. Having a new audio player will make it easier to hear all the chants, rhymes, and songs throughout the day.
