Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very involved in the arts. They act in plays, create beautiful pieces of artwork, dance and sing. They work hard and practice a great deal but after the show these memories are forgotten. We want to record our plays, dances, and songs to keep and cherish.

My students attend a school in Brooklyn, New York that focuses on arts and culture.

Our classroom is an ICT classroom with 31 students, of which 12 are English Language learners (ELL) and 12 are students with IEPs (ranging from Learning Disabilities, speech and language, and other health impairments). In our school, we work hard to meet the standards but we also work hard on the arts. My students are involved in several performances, including a grade assembly where they act out scenes from Native American Folk Tale, two dance performances, a colonial day fair and much more. We study and work hard, while keeping the arts alive in our curriculum.

My Project

With a digital camera, students' practices can be recorded and studied, to understand what needs to be changed and work on. Also, at the end of the school year, students and parents will received a mix media DVD with all the pictures and the performances.

This project is important because many parents cannot take the day off to see their sons or daughters be in a school performance and since my students live in an impoverished community, parents do not have the means to record or take pictures of their kids during the performances.

A digital camera is important to help these students share with their parents.
