This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When you initially see this project some thoughts that may cross your mind are: "Wow, this teacher wants over 2,000 dollars' worth of products?" or "Aren't kids exposed to enough technology?" I can see where you are coming from if these were some thoughts you had-I've had them too-so I have spent months deciding if a 65" touch screen is the right tool to enhance my teaching. After weighing the pros and cons, I can tell you the pros greatly outweigh the cons.

Education has to be adaptable and ever-evolving to meet the needs of our students; touch screens are a part of that evolution and let's face it-old technology like whiteboards and projectors just aren't cutting it anymore!

In my previous district we had beautiful, new touch screen smartboards. I absolutely loved using it with my first graders! The engagement was outstanding! However, my new school is in a rural area with much less funding and opportunities for technology. I currently have an old projector that is blurry, and it is very hard to read text. I have to call tech support constantly and it's simply outdated! Thus, my DonorsChoose project is born!

Listen, we know children these days love technology, so why fight it? Instead, I want to use technology as a tool to keep students engaged and enjoying their learning experience! If you know Ms. Sam, you know I love to make learning fun! With this touch screen I can create interactive math activities where multiple students can come to the screen to answer questions with digital tools (ex. rekenreks, blocks, numberlines), highlight important words in a text during small group reading with the touch of a finger, and with a stylus, write directly on the screen in fun colors! The engagement and learning possibilities are endless!
