Our small K-8 school only has two classrooms: Primary Class (K-3rd) and the Intermediate Class (4-8th grades). Imagine a modern "Little House on the Prairie". In our multi-grade classrooms, students are taught at their ability level rather than just their age's level.
A small school means differentiated instruction and one-on-one teaching, but it also means we have fewer resources.
Our students are from a rural community, small enough that they can play in the creek next to the school. Our students tend to be those who don't typically fit at other schools, because they are too far ahead, behind, or need more hands-on learning. We may not have access to some things bigger schools have, like a library, gym, or lunchroom. But we do have small classes, great kids, and teachers who care deeply.

Outbreak Alert: Engineering a Pandemic Response will present students with a fascinating problem that ties into our SEED standards. Imagine scholars exploring the situation, testing a hypothesis, evaluating what worked or didn't work, and trying again. They may fail the first time. They may fail a lot. That's real life. Finding a solution to a problem that isn't easy teaches persistence, creates determination, and encourages innovation--and that's what we need tomorrow's leaders to have.
