My Students

We are AES Proud. Our school is Title 1, low economic school and my classroom is Special Education SLC (Structured Learning Class). My students have an advantage to be greater than what they already are, but I want them to be the greatest. All of my students are ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). They are considered non-verbal, but we do get them to say words. We match pictures, words, objects. My students are visual learners and the curriculum that we use in Unique. Everything we use to teach is in color. Color makes the pictures look real for them. I have been with AES and my classroom for 14 years and I love it and want to continue doing it.

My Project

We use a wonderful curriculum that provides detailed visuals for our unique learners. Everything is in color. Their pictures and schedules show them where to go. Their pictures show them what is their's. Unique learning (our curriculum) is the best thing that Houston ISD has done for our students. Each month is a different theme and it has to printed in color. We use real objects, colors to match with, and pictures to show what things look like. Some of my students won't all have the opportunity to experience it in person so we will show them in the classroom. A color printer that has the capacity to print a large amount of work, is greatly needed. We print the themes monthly and we laminate and make books for each of our students.
