My Students

I am teaching an amazing group of special education and general education (ICT), third & fourth-graders in a New York City DOE school. The model we are using this year is called the Hybrid. In a given week students split their time in person in school and remotely at home. This has caused it's own unique problems, especially for our younger students.

My students are curious explorers who want to see the world, they have a million questions, and learn a great deal from on another.

However, technology literacy has not been a constant in their lives before this past year, and equitable internet has not been widely available to every one. They are eager to learn and to show off their digital skills they've been learning.

Now that most students are back in person, we are working toward more digital programs to prepare their for their future in a digital world. We began AMIRA to assess their reading abilities and need your help!

My Project

I am requesting a new class set of headphones with microphones. Beginning this month, most students are back in the classroom and we have began a new reading program, AMIRA. Amira requires students to read along, and out loud to test their individual reading abilities virtually.

With most students in the room now, they need the ability to have noise canceling, strong microphones to be heard by the latest reading program.

This is difficult with a class of 30 plus some students streaming in remotely.

With VERY limited headphones provided by the school, students need their own. This project will allow students to maintain personal items without sharing due to COVID, as well as insuring properly working headphones.

We have included two wireless Bluetooth headphones for the teachers. We continue to stream students remotely and require wireless movement throughout the room for our in-person students. This will allow us to hear and respond to those online while monitoring our in person students at the same time.
