My Project

No two days are alike in an elementary school, and no two students are alike in my 4th-grade classroom! The students in my classroom are energetic, creative, and independent. My school is in a rural, small town in Indiana. We are a Title I school with approximately 52% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunches. The students come from various backgrounds, and some of them see school as a place to get away from their worries and feel secure.

In today's world, they get a lot of screen time and not enough time to interact with each other without technology!

Over the last two years with COVID and virtual learning, my students have really missed out on playing and interacting with their peers.

My students have weekly goals that they work hard to meet. If they meet their goals, they get to participate in FUN FRIDAY with students from other 4th grade classrooms. During this time, they get to play board games, card games, etc. with their 4th-grade peers. They cannot use their devices during this time! This has been a great addition to my 4th-grade classroom because it gives my students a chance to interact with each other AND some time away from their computers. They learn to read and follow game directions, how to play together, and even how to show good sportsmanship through these games. Some of them have never played board games before! It has really helped them learn social skills and how to get along with each other. With this project, I will be adding a lot more games to my collection so students have even more choices on what they would like to play, which will hopefully continue motivating and encouraging them to meet their weekly goals!
