This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

PE was the highlight of my school day and to many of my students. I want my students to view PE in many different and wonderful ways. One size does not fit all! Due to our small space and limited resources, they may not find the activity they love if they are not exposed to a variety of them!

My students are awesome!

I couldn't ask for a better group! I see all students from K-5. They are always excited and willing to try new things. As a matter of fact they are absolutely gushing with excitement when they are shown activities they have never seen. They are from a low economic area of the Bronx. They do not have many opportunities for physical activity outside of school. We work in a small space, which a large amount of students in each PE class. It is a very close knit school, which the love and caring for students is obvious as soon as you walk in the door. They deserve the opportunity to see games and activities that further their love of PE and make them want more. Due to our facilities the activities we can do are limited but can be ones that they go home and tell their parents about and make them ask me "what are we doing next PE class?"

My Project

I am requesting a omnikin ball for my classes. This is a a very large, light air filled ball. This is gold for cooperative games. This can be used and loved by all grades. We can use it for volleyball, tag games and team building activities. The best part is that it is very versatile, safe and fun. This piece of equipment stirs up excitement in every student just because of its appearance. Even students that are relucent to play are overtaken by any activity using this ball. They are learning to cooperate in a way that they didn't even realize they were. It's an excellent tool for teaching and learning about working together. Working together is the backbone of everything we teach in PE. The earlier this is taught, the more our students benefit. If that wasn't enough, they are exercising and having a ball while learning!

My goal in this project is to integrate cooperative activities into every unit.

As many people know, teachers are not just teachers, they are nurses, friends, role models, comfort and leaders to our students. PE is an important component to education because it allows students to learn, grow and express themselves in a different environment. Our goal is to educate the whole student and this is one part. Honestly, If you were a child wouldn't you be excited to be part of this game?
