My Students
Sometimes it is a challenge for our students to handle their emotions appropriately. As the school counselor, I work with them to understand their feelings and work through them in a healthy way. The books I am ordering are wonderful!
Our students come from an economically disadvantaged area.
Many of them face family issues at home related to poverty. They come to school ready to learn, and respond very well to positive reinforcement and engaging lessons on doing the right thing. They are ready and open to learning how to treat themselves and others with respect!
My Project
The "Learning to Get Along" series I am ordering for our students is outstanding! It is never too early for children to learn to recognize their feelings, express them and build communication skills. These books cover such topics and working through anger, working things out, being polite and kind, sharing and taking turns, understanding and caring and perseverance. The books are very engaging and the illustrations are such that they will appeal to young children. I can't wait to use them with our kids!
What an impact can be made on a school climate when students are taught how to be kind and caring, how to share, how to be honest and tell the truth!
Accepting the value and worth of each person is a lesson that can stay with them throughout their lives. I look forward to working with them around these very important social and emotional skills.
