My Students

I want my students to be the best leaders they can be. My school is currently using the 7 Habits of Happy Kids initiative to promote responsibility, goal setting, and respect. I would love for my students to do this independently, but for right now they need to be rewarded with materials in this project.

I work in the capital city of my state, in an elementary school of 800+ students.

Our city is also home to two major universities and one large community college. Our school sits on the edge of the downtown area, next to the city's main hospital.

Our school may be high poverty, but we have the most amazing students that do not let that challenge stop them! They are eager to learn and put forth the effort necessary to help themselves be better than they were yesterday.

My Project

My students will continue to strive to demonstrate the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, set and work toward the goals they set, and become lifelong learners. The Hokki Stools in this project will help motivate students and reward them for demonstrating these qualities by allowing them flexible seating options. These stools will help promote the positive behaviors and encourage students to become more responsible as they move forward in their educational journey. They will help make the transition toward more independent learners, while making the process fun and meeting their learning needs.

If we truly want to prepare our students for the real world, we need to put them in responsive, dynamic environments that reflect life outside of a traditional classroom.

As they get older, they must move away from relying on their parents and teachers telling them what to do and become personally invested in their education. Encouraging and motivating my students to do this at an early age will help them be more successful as they move on to middle and high school and beyond. These materials will serve as a way to provide a choice in my students learning and establish responsibility in the process.
