Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my class come from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities. Most students come from immigrant parents that are struggling. I teach a collaborative integrated class consisting of a majority of students with special needs ranging from classifications such as autism and emotionally disturbed. Even with these circumstances, they have a desire to achieve and try their best. The area in which my school is located, is a rural area with many low income housing projects. Most parents are receiving public assistance and are from single-family homes.

My Project

My class needs headphones for the computer area. The students in my class already have focusing problems due to their special needs, as well as their age. The use of technology really helps the students grasp what they are learning. This is helpful due to their different learning styles. We like to differentiate instruction and having students on the computer in a quiet area with headphones will allow the other students focus on the lessons that they need. These headphones will help them with literacy skills as well as achieving math standards. Donors choose is an incredible organization and a lot of my classroom supplies have been donated to us through the years. Creating these projects in my class has my students excited and gives and the feeling that there are good people in the world. Having a positive outlook will help them grow as lifelong learners. I am hoping to recieve the headphones for my class to help achieve their goals.
