We Can Do Hard Things!: Persevering Through Problem Solving
Help me give my students all the tools they need to succeed in our mathematics classroom this year! Their whiteboards are essential for working out, discussing, and sharing their ideas when persevering through challenging multi-step math problems!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are sweet, driven, smart 9, 10, and 11-year olds from the South Bronx. They come to school excited to grow and learn every day. No matter what is going on in their personal lives, they come to our classroom happy and full of love for each other.
My kids learn best when they have the opportunity to work together to create plans, ask questions, and solve problems about the world around them.
They are on their way to becoming the future leaders of our country and I'm honored to be a small part of their journey.
My Project
In our 5th grade math classroom this year, we will be focused on using problem-solving skills, critical thinking, perseverance, and collaboration to find unique, efficient solutions to real-world problems. We will be engaging in the 5 Mathematical Practices daily in order to build our skills as mathematicians, creative leaders, as well as team players.
In order to support our success in these rigorous mathematical endeavors, our environment must be organized and filled with essential tools that will enable us to push ourselves to think critically and creatively.
Thank you for ensuring we are able to learn in a classroom that will give us the tools we need to thrive in 5th grade and beyond!
